Announcements / Furnace advice...

Hey all guys! Awesome site.

Last Tuesday I asked around for an air conditioning specialist for the townhouse. System was blowing dust and smelled musty, and I could not believe my luck.

After going through all that that finding a trustworthy HVAC service before an emergency happens is key.

A contractor I know recommended a 24 hour HVAC service directory that handles everything from AC repair to full system installs. Everything was excellent and the job was done right.

What I really liked was there was no long wait for a callback.

Worth checking out: furnace repair service

Thought I would share! Talk soon:)

Announcements / Air conditioner suggestion?
Last post by hvac24Slene - Feb 21, 2026, 10:22 PM
Hi there folks. Good platform.

Finally looked up an experienced HVAC team when something went wrong at my medical office. HVAC system was making a grinding noise. and I had no idea what to do!

If there is one thing I took away from that that finding a trustworthy HVAC service before an emergency happens is key.

I stumbled onto a 24 hour HVAC service directory that connects you with licensed local HVAC techs fast. The tech who came out was refreshingly professional and I was impressed!

The best part was they gave me a detailed estimate before starting any work!

This is the service to call: get help now

Hope nobody needs it but better safe than sorry! All the best!

Jokes / I'm losing my mind jokes
Last post by Mike - Feb 17, 2026, 12:18 AM
Here are some of my favorite jokes about getting older and memory. These are all mine, by the way.

I'm getting older but I'm not worried about losing my mind some day. That ship has already sailed.

Actually, it's more like it sailed, caught fire, sank, and is now an artificial reef.

I'm not the sharpest butter knife in the drawer anymore.

When I was younger I had all kinds of thoughts running through my mind. These days it's more like a slow crawl.

I'm a fairly existential thinker. Sometimes I stop and ask myself, "Why am I here?" Fortunately the person ahead of me in line usually knows.

Computers / Looking for info on certificat...
Last post by Mike - Feb 17, 2026, 12:08 AM
I'm looking to go back to work part time. I'd like to get something in IT, something like webmastering or web development. I have skills but no degrees. I was wondering about certifications.

Is it worth the money to get them? Do employers accept them in lieu of a college degree? I see W3Schools has something to do with certifications. Are they good> Where else should I look?

I really know nothing about this so anything you can do to help would be... helpful. (Gotta love that line.) Thanks in advance.

Introductions / Hello all
Last post by Mike - Feb 15, 2026, 07:01 AM
I thought I'd introduce myself quick. I'm Mike Gurak and I own and operate this site.

I consider myself a computer geek but overall I'm a nerd. I've outgrown my social awkwardness but I still revel in nerdly pursuits.

I've been programming since 1981 when I learned BASIC on our family's Atari 400. I've programmed in a number of languages on a number of devices, including a graphing calculator. I'm big into sci-fi and music. I'm also a writer with 5 self-published books to my name currently. I'm a software guy who knows just enough about hardware to get the most enjoyment out of my software and computer games.

If you were ever a nerd, geek, or dweeb back in school you probably get the joke. We thought nothing of reading books with titles like this.

Nerds Geeks & Dweebs is a site to hang out and discuss all things intellectual and just plain fun. Be sure to read the About Us page on the main website. Basically I missed the forums I used to hang out on and wanted to up the ante by providing forums where people wouldn't back away slowly if we wanted to talk about things like quantum physics or the latest graphics cards for computers.

You don't have to be a nerd, geek, or a dweeb to join, and you don't have to have been one back in the day either. I'm hoping to make this a fun and interesting place to hang out.

Off-Topic / Why Not the nerd?
Last post by Mike - Feb 15, 2026, 06:41 AM
Here's a poem I wrote and published in my book of poetry. Hopefully most of us have outgrown some of the things here so this is mainly for the kids.

Why Not The Nerd
by Mike Gurak

Why not the nerd?
Why doesn't the nerd get the girl?
We're not jokes, we're real people.
Don't make fun of us because we're smart.
So we like things you don't get.

Why not the nerd?
Why doesn't the nerd get invited to parties?
We don't get much practice socializing.
Trivia is our communication.
It's how we break the ice.

Why not the nerd?
Why doesn't the nerd have non-nerd friends?
Many of us have big hearts.
That's why you can take advantage of us.
Please don't.
Big hearts break very easily.

Why not the nerd?
Why isn't the nerd wanted until we become famous?
Lucky for you we forgive as adults.
You don't deserve less.
That's how we think.

Why not the nerd?
Really, why not?

Computers / Good book recommendations for ...
Last post by Mike - Feb 15, 2026, 06:09 AM
I'm currently brushing up on C# and PHP. At some point I'd like to seriously learn Python. Does anybody have a good book recommendation? I've been programming in one language or another since 1981 so I understand programming concepts. Don't be afraid to recommend thick books. I'd like to get a good understanding of the language and become an intermediate Python programmer at least. Thanks in advance.

Announcements / Where does this go?
Last post by Mike - Feb 15, 2026, 06:04 AM
I've tried to make the forums easy to figure out what post goes where but there will always be that one post you aren't sure where to post it. Go ahead and use your best judgement. If it's in the "wrong" forum I'll move it. Note: if you continually post to the wrong forum we'll have a little chat, rest assured.
